*Updated August 16th*
Many people know Dadrian from here and from Miami-vice.org and how he is able to make incredible covers of Jan's music from Miami Vice.
Ferrariman forwarded this cover to me today and it sounds so awesome that I am posting it as a frontpage article.
The file is in WMA format
Dadrian has made yet another cover he wants to share with us, this time it is Ira Stone.... Download it here and enjoy it, Dade is on a roll!!!
Just one day after I posted Dadrians cover he came up with another one..
Enjoy it and keep an eye out on the frontpage....

Great cover. Thanks for your efforts
Being from season 4, I am wondering though, is this Jan or the other guy John Petersen, or both? Certainly sounds like Jan. |

Here's an FAQ:
Q: How did you make these sounds?
A:
I used Cakewalk SONAR 3 Producer (with Lexicon Pantheon Hall Reverb) for recording editing and mixing.
That crazy-sounding patch used for the melody is from my DX7IIFD. The factory cartridge has a patch called "Pluckatan". It is actually two sounds in one. If you play softer velocities, you get the sound that starts this song off. If you play harder velocities, you get the dirty sound that plays during the middle of the song. I would never have picked this to be a Miami Vice sound, but it actually turns out to be pretty cool after all the other instruments start to aggregate.
The sound that joins in on the higher octave with the "Pluckatan" is called "English Horn", also from the DX7IIFD cartridge. EQ used here.
The kick drum, congas, and open hi-hat are all from the LM-2 Linndrum. You can find those samples all over the place. Use google. This song has a strange pattern for the hi hat. Just the open hat on the 16th right before the 2 count.
The click sound is a tuned up sample of the wood block from the Linndrum.
The snare is an actual sample from the soundtrack. Made by a dear friend who I will keep anonymous out of courtesy. Thanks, pal. Some EQ here.
The bass is my rendition of Jan's Memorymoog patch that was used probably more than any other sound on the show. I made it on my Korg Triton with a SuperSaw wave and some Pink noise. EQ was involved, too. This is the same patch I used on my "Slow Theme" cover.
And the lead: If you want to make this sound, buy a Rockman Dist. Gen. from the 80s and an ORIGINAL 70s MXR Flanger on ebay. I've tried everyway around them. Some are very good, but just get the real thing. You won't be disappointed. The only way I could make it better would be with an actual Memorymoog. I used the DX7 "Jazz Guitar" patch (from "Nigth Talk") layered with an analog patch made from the very fat pulse wave on the Triton. The fat pulse wave with the MXR and Rockman will give you the Miami Vice Theme sound EXACTLY. I used Native Instruments "Guitar Rig" VST for amp simulation: spring reverb and vintage delay through 2 4x10s, miked at close range on axis. Some EQ was also involved.
Those effects on the lead sound will just be effects if you don't practice your pitch wheel. I've been bending for about 9 years now and I still have a LONG way to go, but i'm a bassist, not a keyboardist, so you may get there before I do . Spend a lot of time on this if you want to do Jan Hammer-like leads. And like the man said: "think like a guitarist".
Thanks for listening/reading. I'll post more songs/info soon. _________________ "Don't worry, I'm immune."
